Cowal Highland Gathering Takes to the Big Screen!
Thanks to EventScotland Grant Award
EventScotland has granted an award of £10,000 to the 2010 Cowal Highland Gathering, the world’s largest and most spectacular highland games event, held in Dunoon every August.
The grant money will specifically support the hiring of a big screen, radio and television advertising and additional promotional leaflets for the event this year.
This will be the first time Cowal Gathering has used a big screen, also known as an LED screen similar to those used at music festivals and popular sporting events. To an expected crowd of 15 to 20,000 people on the Saturday, the screen will show the World Highland Dancing Championship Finals along with other key competitions taking place that day.
Also expected to reach our own screens this August will be the Cowal Gathering advertising campaign on STV. The plan is to have a series of adverts, which will deservedly promote the event as a quality day out attraction, transmitted to the channel’s extensive west coast region including Glasgow, Ayr and as far north as Fort William.
Malcolm Barclay, Event Manager for Cowal Highland Gathering said: “We are incredibly grateful to EventScotland for their support in this year’s media campaign. The new LED screen means that everyone will get a front row view of the competitions. It will also create a new platform for Cowal Games to showcase the talents and world class professionalism of our competitors.”
He added: “We are currently in discussion with STV and we look forward to creating an even bigger buzz about our world renowned institution in surrounding, accessible areas.”
Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland, the national events agency, said: "The Cowal Highland Gathering is one of the world's biggest and most spectacular Highland Games and attracts thousands of people to Dunoon in Argyll each year. The event is a massive celebration of Scotland's culture, heritage and indigenous sports and proves itself to be a huge tourism asset to the area each year. The big screen in 2010 will ensure that all those who attend get the best possible experience and spread the word far and wide that the Cowal Games is one of Scotland's must see events."
We would like to thank all of our sponsors for their financial and logistical support which allows us to continue to grow the event.
